Mobility and access around the Norfolk Hotel

So that guests may assess the suitability of the property for their requirements we have provided the following information abut the hotel’s layout.

  •  The hotel has 100 guest rooms in total situated over 4 floors, including the ground floor.
  • The hotel has one eight person lift which serves all floors.
  • 45 guest rooms (3 single rooms and 42 standard rooms) are accessible from the lift without negotiating stairs.
  • Of these rooms, 3 singles and 16 standards are equipped with walk-in showers.

6 standard rooms and 3 single room walk-in showers have a step up of approximately 200mm to access.

The remaining walk-in showers have a tray height of approx. 100mm

Bathrooms have a grab rail fitted within the bath or shower. The grab rails are not Document M (Doc-M) compliant.

We have no bathrooms within the property, including public areas that are Document M (Doc-M) compliant.

14 of our standard rooms on the third floor are bath only.

  • 47 guest rooms are accessed by a minimum of 5 stairs.
  • Of the 8 ground floor rooms, 3 are equipped with walk-in showers with a lip of approximately 100mm; the remaining 5 have baths with an overhead shower.
  • The doors in to each guest room range from a width of 630mm to 730mm
  • Guest room doors are self closing fire doors.
  • The guest room key slot height is approx. 1400mm
  • In the event of a fire guests staying in rooms on the 1st floor and above would have to use the fire exits and negotiate stairs without use of the lift.
  • Whilst we make every possible effort to ensure room requests are met we cannot guarantee compliance with requests.
  • Our car park can be accessed from the rear of the hotel and does not involve negotiating steps.
  • Electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be stored in guest rooms. Storage is available at the rear of the property. Please note that storage is provided as a courtesy and is at the guest’s own risk.

We have one specified disabled space. If a car parking space with wider access is required please contact us.

  • The reception area and bar are accessed via a set of three stairs followed by a set of two stairs ( see photo 4):
  • The hotel can be accessed from the car park without negotiating any stairs (see photo 3)
  • The garden and grounds of the hotel have various sets of steps, an example can be seen in photo 2.
  • The front entrance of the hotel has a set of 3 stairs which can be seen in photo 1.

If you require any further information regarding any of the points raised within this document or feel that an element of access has not been covered then please email us at stay@norfolkhoteljersey.co.uk.

Fire Evacuation

In the event of a fire, the lift cannot be used. Guests on the first floor and above must evacuate via fire exit stairs. Where a guest has a mobility impairment that may affect their ability to evacuate, a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) will be put in place. Guests with significant mobility requirements are encouraged to advise us prior to arrival so we can make the necessary arrangements.
